Student killed at marathon remembered as bright

BOSTON (AP) — Earlier this week, Lu Lingzi sent an exuberant email to a professor after learning she had passed part of a major exam. She had spent the entire year preparing for the test.

Less than 24 hours later, she was killed in the Boston Marathon explosions that claimed two other lives.

Lu was a graduate student at Boston University studying statistics. She also attended the Beijing Institute of Technology.

Lu is being described as an exceptional student and bright young scientist.

Tasso Kaper, the chair of BU's mathematics department, says Lu loved flowers and the springtime.

She only had one course left to complete in order to graduate.

She was standing with two friends when the bombs went off. One was seriously injured.
