HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Court officials in Zimbabwe say a man has been charged in the murder of six people who died from poisoned food meant only for a neighbor he accused of flirting with his wife.
State prosecutors said Tuesday that Saini Sakandya, 63, arrested last week, allegedly used a wild herb to spike food being prepared for lunch at his neighbor's house. But the neighbor, four members of his family and a builder working at the homestead 250 kilometers (160 miles) south of Harare shared the meal.
In a separate incident in Bulawayo, police said Tuesday a child of 12 confessed to trying to poison his father with rat killer, copying a murder in Generations, a popular South African television soap screened in Zimbabwe. His father survived after hospital treatment last Thursday.
